Lexapro (escitalopram) is an efficient medicine used for depression and generalized anxiety disorder. This drug corrects the imbalance of serotonin in the brain. If you are younger than 24, your health care provider will want to monitor your condition for any side effects that may appear to make sure you are benefitting from the treatment as much as possible. Your health care provider will need to know if you are taking any other medications or if you are planning to take them in the nearest future. The following ones need to be reported: medications for anxiety, sleeping pills, sedatives, seizure meds, ketoconazole, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cimetidine, medications for migraine headaches, lithium, anticoagulants, tranquilizers, other antidepressants, and antihistamines. Never take more of Lexapro than prescribed, as taking more of this medicine is not going to make your treatment more efficient. Make sure you tell your health care provider if you develop any serious side effects of this medicine that are unlikely but still possible. The following side effects need to be reported: unusual excitement, confusion, fever, sweating, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, and muscle stiffness.
